Howdy
So I’m working on 3 game prototypes at the moment and spiraling around between them as my brain needs time to percolate on stuff.
The most recent prototype and the one that I’m most jazzed about currently is some kind of dungeon crawler. I am experimenting with Trailer First Development where I am sprinting to get a trailer and art assets ready before even touching game code (though I can’t help but fiddle around with some ECS architectures. More on that in a future post).
So, this is where I’m at. Surely you can see the vision?

I’m definitely wearing my influences on my sleeves.
Salamander King I love you lets make a game.
Anyways,
I’ve been informed by Kristoff Red that it looks better with a pixel shader. I kinda agree that it’s kinda more retroish Vermis vibes? Which is good kinda? I’m pretty on the fence about it.

What do you think?
I’m also currently working through Thinking in Systems by Donella H. Meadows in preparation for an ECS / Systemic Games series that will culminate in a dramatic reveal of an industry shattering architectural paradigm shift.
But actually I just plan to write down some ECS patterns that will hopefully help some people spin up more quickly and lead to some interesting games with some nice Emergent Behavior that I can play.
I’ve found that there is a real dearth of game design ECS info out there if you’re looking for anything more than how ECS works or why it’s good.
I’ll set up a newsletter one of these days.
